The Arboretum is a 1047-acre horticultural garden and arboretum located about 4 miles west of Chanhassen, Minnesota. The arboretum features magnificent gardens, model landscapes, and natural areas - from woodlands and wetlands to prairie - with extensive collections of northern-hardy plants.
Tour the Arboretum on 12.5 miles of garden paths and hiking trails. Walk the close gardens and bike, walk or drive Three-Mile Drive to see more gardens and collections.
The University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is part of the Department of Horticultural Science within the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences at the University of Minnesota. Our mission is to provide a community and national resource for horticultural and environmental information, research and public education; to develop and evaluate plants and horticultural practices for cold climates; and to inspire and delight all visitors with quality plants in well-designed and maintained displays, collections, model landscapes, and conservation areas.
The historic Snyder Building features a horticultural library and small conservatory. The new Oswald Visitor Center houses a cafeteria-style restaurant, gift store and gallery.

Seasonal Events
In May, thousands of visitors come to see each year's new spring bulb display and the spectacular show of 400 crabapple trees in blossom on Three-Mile Drive. The summer gardens are just as magnificent as lilies, roses and perennials steal the show.
Autumn's vibrant hues of yellow, orange and red provide unique sensory experiences and discovery adventures.
During the holidays, the Arboretum decks the halls with live Christmas trees and creative holiday decorations from nature.
In winter, visitors keep in touch with nature on 8.5 miles of cross country ski trails and 1.25 miles of snowshoe trails - and the Oswald Visitor Center features changing plant and art exhibits.
Throughout the seasons, tour the Reedy Gallery, choose from a variety of classes, and join in fun family activities each weekend.
